Main Street in Windham was overflowing with enthusiastic spectators for the annual Independence Day parade which included floats created by local citizens, dignitaries riding in cars or walking and waving, volunteer fire companies and many, many celebrating children and adults. The Windham Hose Company hosted the parade. Nearly every fire department from the entire mountaintop joined in the festivities. The Windham Chapter contributed funds to the fireworks display at Windham Mountain. Some said it was the best fireworks display they had ever seen. July 4th smiles and flags were in ample supply as local families cheered the parade forward. Spectators lined the parade route for nearly two miles.
